SUMMER OF SAM focuses on an Italian-American community in the Bronx, specifically Dionna and Vinny, a couple whose marriage is threatened by Vinny's obsession with other women. After Vinny returns home one night to find a killer has murdered two local women, he promises to mend his cheating ways. As the media reports the murders and a blackout threatens to unleash anarchy on the city, its inhabitants begin to look for a scapegoat who will release them from the reign of terror created by the chilling figure known only as the Son of Sam. In THE BOSTON STRANGLER, several elderly women are strangled, apparently by the same unknown assailant. An investigation ensues, but clues lead nowhere. Then the strangler starts to attack younger women. John Bottomly is assigned to direct a more intense investigation, interviewing even the remotest suspects. Meanwhile, the murders continue. In KALIFORNIA, a young couple on their way to California pick up a pair of hitchhikers and get more than they bargained for.
