This feature-length retrospective offers an in-depth look at the role of black actors and entertainers in Hollywood throughout the decades. It does so, however, from the vantage point of the year it was made: 1984, a time when hip-hop culture was still in the final stages of its blooming nascency and only a handful of black stars held much mainstream national relevance.
