Emerging from the gritty New York underbelly in the early 1980s, Anthrax infused the breakneck speed of West Coast thrash with the aggressive stomp of East Coast hardcore punk, forging a entirely fresh sub-genre blueprint. Alongside their peer group of legendary stadium-filling icons, Anthrax laid down the law of what aggressive guitar music could achieve. They challenged conventions, injected an infectious, high-energy sense of humor and streetwear aesthetic into a historically grim scene. For decades they were a driving force within the world of heavy metal, a staple delivering highly anticipated new albums continually well into their third and even fourth decade as a band. But no new material has seen the light of day for the last ten years or so. Until now, that is.

Cursum Perficio: The Decade-Long Wait is Broken

The international metal community has been whipped into a frenzy with the announcement of the band's highly anticipated 12th studio album, Cursum Perficio. Set for release on September 18th, 2026, the new record marks their first full-length collection of new studio material in a decade, following up 2016's acclaimed "For All Kings". Recorded at Dave Grohl's Studio 606 alongside longtime producer Jay Ruston, the album represents a triumphant return that almost didn't happen due to the unexpected roadblocks of the early 2020s.

The lead single, "It's For the Kids," has already proven that the immense lay-off has done absolutely nothing to dull their trademark thrash attack, delivering a furious barrage of precision riffs from Scott Ian and blistering drum work from Charlie Benante. The Latin title—translating to "I complete my journey" or "I will persevere"—embodies the band's sheer resilience and refusal to slow down, promising a record that is incredibly brutal, riff-centric, and entirely uncompromising.
