On the morning of July 18, a family in Styles Court woke up and found that the elderly homeowner Emily Inglethorp was dead. She was poisoned by strychnine. Arthur Hastings, a soldier from the Western Front, stayed in this country estate as a guest on sick leave. He ventured to the nearby village of Styles St Mary to seek help from his friend Hercule Poirot. Emily is a rich woman. Her family includes her husband Alfred Inglethorp (Alfred Inglethorp), who was recently married. Stepsons of John and Lawrence Cavendish (the former marriage of her first husband); John's wife Mary Cavendish; Cynthia Murdoch, the daughter of a deceased friend; and There is Evelyn Howard, Emily's companion. Poirot learned that according to Emily's will, John inherited the estate from her according to his father's will.
