The Mysterious Affair at Styles

An alleged murder by strychnine poisoning has occurred in a country house in the town of Styles St. Mary. The wealthy widow Emily Inglethorpe has died and any resident of the house, including her new young husband Andrew, or her stepchildren John and Lawrence, may have been the perpetrator. Hastings, a guest in the house, contacts his friend, the Belgian detective Hercule Poirot, who has taken refuge in England during the First World War, to solve the case.
