The first members of the Lawson family of Lancaster County settled along Lawson Bay in 1651. They were remarkable in that the family stayed together through multiple generations and farmed the land into the 1900s. For centuries they served the community as justices, sheriffs, and vestrymen. Today there are still many Lawson descendants in Lancaster county.
