The Call of the Wild (Annotated)

The Call of the Wild is a novel by Jack London distributed in 1903. The story is set in the Yukon during the 1890s Klondike Gold Rush-a period when strong sled dogs were in high demand. The novel's central character is a dog named Buck, a trained pooch living at a farm in the Santa Clara valley of California as the story opens. Taken from his home and sold into the severe reality of an Alaskan sled hound, he returns to atavistic attributes. Buck is forced to adjust to, and survive, cruel treatments and battle to overwhelm different canines in a cruel atmosphere. In the long run he sheds the facade of development, depending on primordial instincts and lessons he learns, to emerge as a leader in the wild. London lived for a large portion of a year in the Yukon gathering material for the book. The story was serialized in the Saturday Evening Post in the mid year of 1903; after a month it was discharged in book structure. The epic's extraordinary prevalence and achievement made a reputation for London. A lot of its allure gets from the effortlessness with which London presents the topics in a practically legendary structure. As right on time as 1908 the story was adjusted to film and it has since seen several more cinematic adaptations. This annotated edition contains large print.
