On Christmas Eve, narrator and a number of their buddies are collected round a fire. One of them, Douglas, reads a manuscript written via way of means of his sister's late governess. The manuscript tells the tale of the way the younger governess is employed via way of means of a person who has emerge as chargeable for his younger nephew and niece after the deaths in their parents. Flora's uncle, the governess's new employer, is tired of elevating the youngsters and offers her complete charge, explicitly pointing out that she isn't to trouble him with communications of any sort. They discover her at the shore of a close-by lake, and the governess is satisfied that Flora has been speaking to the ghost of Miss Jessel. The ghost of Quint seems to the governess on the window. The governess shields Miles, who tries to look the ghost. The governess tells Miles he's now not managed via way of means of the ghost, after which unearths that Miles has died in her arms.
