At the beginning of the book, Robert, Anthea, Cyril, and Jane's father reported on the Manchurian War abroad. Her mother took her brother Lamb to Madeira to recover. The children live with an elderly nurse (Mrs Green), who has established a boarding house in central London. Your only other host is an experienced Egyptologist, who has filled your room with ancient artifacts.
