A World Worth Living In is a book about business driven by purpose. A story of people and companies that aspire to more than increasing profits and enriching their owners. It is about using business as a force for change that benefits people and the environment – in society and in the workplace.
In the words of Børge Rambøll (1911–2009), founder of the engineering consultancy Ramboll: “If a company makes a profit, you say it’s doing well; if it makes a loss, it’s doing poorly. It’s true that a company operating at a loss is doing poorly, but it isn’t necessarily doing well just because it has a large profit. There could be a terrible spirit in the company.”
Among the book’s sources are a wide range of prominent business leaders and experts on values-based, socially responsible companies, including Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia; Lars Fruergaard Jørgensen, the long-serving CEO of Novo Nordisk; Chia Song Hwee, CEO of Temasek; Mette Morsing, Professor at the University of Oxford; and Connie Hedegaard, former EU Climate Commissioner.
Flemming Højbo is an author and lecturer who has worked as a journalist for Politiken, Børsen and Jyllands-Posten.
