Kate is an adventurous and gutsy girl who has returned to her family's cabin at Lake Lure, North Carolina, with her father. Reeling from her parents' recent divorce, Kate is annoyed to see Lily, her dad's editor, working with him on his new book. She bikes off in anger and stumbles across an abandoned cabin tucked behind high walls-and inside, she sees a stockpile of guns and ammunition. Hearing voices and fearing discovery, she flees.
