A flood is a natural disaster that refers to the overflow of water from water bodies like rivers, seas or oceans leading to a submersion of land. Floods usually occur as a result of an ecological disturbance. Various upslope and downslope factors contribute to the occurrence of floods. Abrupt changes in precipitation, sudden and heavy melting of snow packs, etc. can also result in floods. The impact of floods can be varied, depending on the intensity of the disaster.
