The Art of War
Sun Tzu
All warfare is based on deception. According to Sun Tzu, ancient Chinese philosopher scholar and General. Hence, when able to attack, we must seem unable when using our forces, we must seem inactive when we are near, we must make the enemy believe we are far away when far away, we must make him believe we are near. Sun Tzu's Art of War is the oldest text on military strategy in existence. Written around the year 512 BC the book has been widely read and quoted by political and military leaders and more modernly by many businessmen and investors, most notably Gordon Gekko (Michael Douglas) in Oliver Stone's 1987 movie Wall Street. According to tradition, Sun Tzu after writing the book was hired as a general the King Helu of the semi-barbaric state of Wu. General Sun Tzu helped lead King Helu's troops to victory over the very powerful Chinese State of Chu and made King Helu one of the most powerful rulers of his day.
