The Five Orange Pips and the Man with the Twisted Lip
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
Holmes seems to only need Dr. Watson's help in these two stories as a Chronicler. In fact, Holmes' genius is mostly performed "off-stage," though we do get a glimpse into his penchant for disguises, and his patience on stakeouts. These are two well-told tales, and parts of Conan Doyle's The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes series of stories.
