This is the life and times of Curtis P. Iaukea. He was born on December 13, 1855 in Waimea on the Hawaiian island of O?ahu. He was chosen before his birth by King Kauikeaouli Kamehameha of Hawaii to become the next ?kahu? (royal retainer) of the Kamehameha royal family. He would be educated and raised to become their guardian, advisor, and most trusted and loyal confidante. He would live to see the rise and fall of the Kamehameha and Kalakaua royal family lines as well as the annexation of Hawaii to the United States. He would live to be one of the last true Hawaiian?s of his time.
