Previously he spent ten years in the RAF, mainly as an instructor on radar, wireless and electronics. He was then a vision engineer with Granada TV in their Manchester studios for 25 years, before taking early retirement and becoming a professional fencing coach. This is his first novel, but he has previously written a number of articles for magazines and many instructional texts for a large correspondence school. He also edits and contributes to "Academy News," the journal of the British Academy of Fencing.
