Claudius James Rich (1786/7–1821), the East India Company's resident at Baghdad, visited many historic locations in present-day Iraq and Iran. This 1839 collection of earlier writings, edited by his widow, focuses on the site of the ancient city of Babylon. Also included are cuneiform inscriptions copied at Persepolis.
