Published in 1857, this is the journal of George Frederick McDougall (c.1825–71). He served as master aboard H. M. S. Resolute, a merchant ship purchased by the Royal Navy and sent to the Arctic in 1852–4 in search of the missing expedition of Sir John Franklin.
