George Gregory
Thomas Chatterton (1752–70) was the author of the forged Rowley poems, which he claimed were transcribed from the work of a fifteenth-century monk. When this biography first appeared in 1789, the provenance of the poems was still disputed, and George Gregory (1754–1808) seeks here to clear Chatterton's name.
