Robert Fitzroy
Robert Fitzroy (1805–65), the Commander of HMS Beagle who took on Charles Darwin as the Ship's naturalist, made his most important scientific contribution as first Director of the Meteorological Office. This work of 1863 gives an account of 'weather forecasting' (his own coinage) and proposals for future developments.
