Adam of Eynsham
Published in 1864, this life of St Hugh of Lincoln was composed by his chaplain Adam of Eynsham in the early thirteenth century. The closeness of the author to his subject allows for an intimate portrayal of the saint, resulting in possibly the finest surviving example of medieval hagiography.
