"Who will deliver us from Karl Marx?" is a collection of 17 articles on political topics. The book deals with a number of questions that have been tormenting me for a long time: "Why has progressivism fallen so low?", "Why can it not arouse interest and win?", "Why, even if I am left-wing, do I not feel particularly well-represented by recent progressivism? ". The answers are entrusted to the various chapters. With a few exceptions, each article in the collection addresses a sacred cow or taboo of the left-wing today, trying to expose inconsistencies and errors and proposing alternative but coherent interpretations and approaches, with a secular, democratic and progressive liberal socialist vision. I started writing in the aftermath of the last general election in Italy, on 4 March 2018. As I proceeded with writing the articles, I became more and more convinced that the reason for the progressive cause losing its appeal in recent years lies only in the fact that an intellectually lazy left-wing has offered an approximate, disoriented and inconsistent, if not directly distorted, form of progressivism. Nevertheless, there is nothing intrinsically wrong with progressivism: it is merely necessary to once again give it order, clarity and effectiveness. In this case, I am sure that the various forms of conservatism, confessionalism, populism and nationalism would have a real challenge on their hands. Writing this book has proved liberating: it gave me unexpected confidence and optimism. I hope it may be just as useful to readers.
