Contributor Bio: Woodward, Roger Roger Woodward rose to international prominence in a series of collaborations with Messiaen, Boulez, Barraqu', Stockhausen, Xenakis, Cage, Feldman and Takemitsu. Critics rate many of his performances with those of the highest echelons of pianists as a result of appearances at Le festival d'automne ' Paris, Venice Biennale, Wien Modern, New York Piano Festival, Edinburgh Festival, BBC Promenade Concerts and, at the invitation of Sviatoslav Richter, La grange de Meslay, Tours, with conductors such as Abbado, Mehta, Mackerras, Masur, Dutoit, Boulez, de Waart, Tan Li Hua, Nello Santi, Tintner, Tamayo, Leinsdorf and Rowicki. The artist has directed festivals in France, Austria, the UK and Australia and is a recipient of the Polish Order of Merit, Solidarity Medal, Gloria Artis and Order of the British Empire. He is a Chevalier de l'ordre des arts et des lettres and a Companion of the Order of Australia. Many distinguished awards for his recordings include the Goethe Prize, Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik, Germany; the Ritmo Prize, Spain and Diapason d'or, France.
