Women in Asian Management
Vimolwan Yukongdi
The book examines the opportunities and barriers for women managers in Asia over the last decade and evaluates their progress in management. This is a special issue of the journal Asia Pacific Business Review.
Publisher Marketing: Women's share of the labour force is increasing worldwide and today, women's participation rate in the labour force is over 40 per cent of the global workforce. There is some evidence that women in some Asian countries may be less marginalised in their advancement into top managerial positions than their counterparts elsewhere Some researchers have suggested that class rather than gender may be the key factor in determining opportunities in management for women in Asia. This has been the case in politics where there are notable examples of Asian women reaching the top position as head of state (e.g., Indonesia, Philippines). As women become more educated and qualified for managerial positions, the number of Asian women managers and executives is predicted to rise over the next decade.
