Born in 1869, Charlotte Mew grew up in Victorian Bloomsbury in genteel poverty establishing herself as a poet and prose-writer during the stimulating period running from John Lane's "Yellow Book" to Harold Munro's bookshop. Charlotte committed suicide in 1928.
